L. Lothaire Bluth, M.D.
Dr. Lothaire Bluth is a board certified ophthalmologist who provides comprehensive eye care including cataract and eyelid surgery. He is the founder of Southwestern Eye Center. Through his vision and dedication, Southwestern Eye Center has become one of Arizona’s largest ophthalmology practices serving patients in many communities throughout the states of Arizona and California.
Dr. Bluth completed his medical degree at the University of Arizona in Tucson and his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California in Los Angeles.
Professional memberships include the American
Ophthalmological Society and the American Society of Cataract and
Refractive Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of
Ophthalmology and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical
Examiners. Dr. Bluth is licensed in Arizona and California.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in a small town in Mexico, Dr. Bluth speaks Spanish fluently. Dr. Bluth and his wife, Connie, are the parents of seven children.
Daryl R. Pfister, M.D.
Dr. Daryl R. Pfister is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who specialized in the medical and surgical management of cornea, cataract, and external diseases of the eye. Dr. Pfister is also a skilled surgeon in the field of refractive surgery including LASIK.
Dr. Pfister completed a two-year fellowship at
the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and has expertise in corneal
transplantation, infectious diseases, tumors of the cornea and cataract
surgery. Dr. Pfister’s research has been supported by several grants,
presented at national ophthalmic meetings and published in several
He attended medical school and internship at the University of Alabama. He went on to complete his residency in Ophthalmology at Tulane University in New Orleans.
Dr. Pfister is Board Certified and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He is licensed in Arizona and Louisiana.
Dr. Pfister and his wife, Anne, have two sons and enjoy skiing, traveling, and biking.

Dr. Palejwala is a Phoenix native completing his high school education at Brophy College Preparatory. He then went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University where he was part of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He then entered medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) national medical honor society and graduated summa cum laude. At Jefferson, he developed a passion for ophthalmology conducting multiple clinical research projects at Wills Eye Institute.
He returned back to the valley for his internship at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and then went on to pursue a residency in ophthalmology at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. After the completion of his residency, he chose to further subspecialize in vitreoretinal surgery at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, OR. During his training, Dr. Palejwala has performed thousands of ophthalmic procedures, authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and presented his work at local and national scientific meetings. He has a particular interest in novel intravitreal drug delivery systems. Dr. Palejwala joined Retinal Consultants of Arizona in 2015.
Dr. Palejwala provides care for patients with a wide variety of vitreoretinal disorders including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachment, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, secondary intraocular lens placement, uveitis, and retinal degenerations/dystrophies. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists.
Dr. Palejwala and his wife are extremely excited to be back in Arizona after being away for several years. They enjoy spending time with their families who still live in the valley, keeping up with their dog, Apollo (which is not an easy task), and exploring the Arizona landscape. In his free time, Dr. Palejwala enjoys distance running (he has completed multiple marathons and half-marathons), hiking, photography, cooking, and snowboarding.
